I love good maps! The other day, I came across one showing the distance to the nearest National Park in the US. I thought that it would be interesting to see what a map like that would look like for Australia, the country with the most National Parks in the world.
For this analysis, I wanted a direct comparison to the US map, so the distance is calculated from the center of each National Park, which means that the size of each National Park is not taken into account. This makes it very easy to see just how many National Parks there are in Australia! And this doesn't even include State Forest or Conservation Parks.
